Odeon Cinema, Stafford
Main Contractor: Simons Construction
Contract Value: £540,000
Duration: February 2018 to July 2018
In February 2018, we were contracted to carry out extensive work on the ‘white box’ shell construction of the new Odeon Cinema in Stafford.
Due to the nature of the project, we needed to use materials that would provide the necessary acoustic requirements within and between the auditoria spaces.
Project-specific acoustic metal stud partitions were installed, which are designed to offer the increased sound insulation required for a cinema, compared to standard stud partitions. The acoustic partitions offer the same level of structural strength as their standard counterparts, but with the added benefit of providing sound reduction of up to 70dB.
In addition to the acoustic metal stud partitions, acoustic mass barrier ceilings were installed. Once again, these were project-specific to suit the requirements of the cinema. Furthermore, a Unistrut sub-grid was suspended through and below the mass barrier ceiling to allow service and cosmetic ceiling installations to be installed as part of the subsequent fit-out works, without affecting the integrity of the mass barrier ceiling.
To complete the shell works, ancillary metal stud partitions and dry linings were installed to create other public and staff areas.
The project spanned 6 months and the result was a new build unit created for the cinema, in-line with unique specifications to support the nature of the build.
